BCARA Field Day 2007

We would like to THANK The Lebanon Parks Department, Mr Roger Neal the Director of the Park's Department and his crew. We truly appreciate the chance to set up our Field Day stations in Memorial Park located in Lebanon, IN. We were allowed to set up and operate in the area that borders Camp St. along the south side of the park. We were hoping to give the public some exposure to Amateur radio. There was an information table set up with brochures and publications from the ARRL for the public to pick up and read about amateur radio.

Attending Field Day 2007 was Gary K9LNX and his YL Janet WD9IWX, Jeff KC9ANB and his YL Amber Brown, Steve KC9JLD and his YL Melody Birt,John WA9WUG and his YL Mildred Simpson, Tom KB9UWR and hid YLJudy Mooney, George KC9HFZ, Cheryl KC9HGA, Phil WE7A, DickWD9GYK, Tanner KC9JOC and his Family, Chris KB9TGB, Tabb KC9KUR, Bill KF9HR, Charlie N9JUV, Herman KE9YZ, Harley KC9GLD, Jimmie N9VXQ, Lloyd Jones and his nephew Brandon, Mayor James Acton, Roger Neal, Steve Chandler N9UIB, Bill Mullins K9LVR, John Davey N9SEZ, Nick Iacobelli KB9YUF.

The group started set up shortly after 10:00 AM on Saturday. During the set up the group faced pop up showers that at times seemed to be down pours,other times just brief showers lasting only a few minutes. The group decided to get the tents set up first, that way they would have shelter from the rain. Tabb KC9KUR set up a shelter for the food tables and grill area. While the others in the group set up the station tents spaced apart from each other by a few yards. We planned on setting up and running 3 stations plus the GOTA station. All stations were powered by gasoline generators brought to Field Day by BCARA members. As pictures and other information is available I will post it as soon as possible.

This year was a first for a lot of us, let me explain…..This year the BCARA held field day in the Memorial Park here in Lebanon. Of course Mother Nature didn’t want to be nice so we set up in the rain, Cheryl “KC9HGA” seen below helped Harley “KC9GLD and the guys hang antennas in the rain. Stopping only to grab a quick bite of the great food everyone help bring and Tab “KC9KUR” was so kind to cook.

Once everyone got there things went along very smoothly and quickly, the rain let up just in time for Mayor Jim Acton to stop by and present the Club with another first in the history of the town and club. The Mayor shown below is giving Jeff “KC9ANB” a Proclamation proclaiming the week of June 18th thru June 23rd to be Amateur Radio Week in Lebanon; the Mayor stated that in the 16 years of being Mayor he has never done anything like this. The Mayor went to say it was an honor to have us putting on the Field Day exercise in the park for the public to see.

But we must not forget Roger Neal with Lebanon Parks Department, who gave us permission to hold Field Day in the park. Mr. Neal has invited us back to the park again next year for Field Day if we wish to hold it there.

We operated a 3A station along with a GOTA station, making contacts in several cool places and made a lot of new friends both on the air and in person. I believe that we had a great field day despite the rain; I also want to take the time to thank everyone who came out this year.
