THIS YEAR FIELD DAY WAS HELD OUT AROUND THE WHITESTOWN AREA. A
SPECIAL THANKS GOES OUT TO CHAD KB9OGJ'S & CRAIG KB9SIQ'S UNCLE AND MOM FOR ALLOWING US TO HAVE FIELD DAY ON THEIR FARM. THERE WERE SEVERAL TALL TREES IN THE LOT THAT ALLOWED THE FELLA'S TO SHOOT SOME LINES UP AND THROUGH TO HOIST UP THE FULL WAVE LOOP FOR 75/80 METERS. THE LOOP IS FED WITH 450 OHM LADDER LINE. SO WITH A TUNER IT WOULD TUNE ALL THE BANDS FOR OPERATION. THE ANTENNA CREW WAS TOM KB9UWR, CHAD KB9OGJ AND WILSON N9YI. WHEN I ARRIVED THE SITE WAS SET UP AND ON THE AIR. AT THE MICROPHONE WAS CHAD AND HE WAS MAKING CONTACTS. FIELD DAY WAS VISITED BY SEVERAL HAMS FROM THE BCARA: WILSON N9YI, TOM KB9UWR, CHAD KB9OGJ, JEFF JC9ANB, NICK KB9YUF, BRIAN N9WP, CRAIG KB9SIQ, STEVE KG9LX, JIM N9VXQ. WHILE I WAS THERE TOM AND JEFF WAS SETTING UP ANOTHER STATION FOR THE GOTA (GET ON THE AIR STATION). BELOW ARE A LIST OF THE CONTACTS MADE ON 20 & 40 METERS BY CHAD KB9OGJ, STEVE KG9LX, TOM KB9UWR AND JEFF KC9ANB.
A look at the field day site for the BCARA.
Another look at the area where field day was at this year.
Another view of the open area north of Whitestown, Thanks to Chad "KB9OGJ" & Craig "KB9SIQ" for securing the open lot.
I believe the guys were scoping out where to hang the antennas in this picture.
Well folks, I'm like you wondering why so many picture of the field day area. HI HI
I'm sure glad to see that it was a very nice day for the antenna crew for field day. Nice bright blue sky. It was at times a bit breezy, all in all a beautiful day though.
Chad "KB9OGJ" with his fishing gear get some lines through the trees.
A view a little further away from Chad "KB9OGJ" showing the angle of the line he's throwing into the tree.
Tom "KB9UWR" looking up into the tree for the fishing line to pull the rope back into the tree with. I believe this is where they hung the full wave loop antenna from.
In this picture it looks like the antenna is laid out on the ground ready to be raised between the trees.
It looks like Chad "KB9OGJ" has a rope in hand raising the antenna between the trees.
I see what looks to be rope and an insulator awaiting it's trip in the air. I don't know what Tom "KB9UWR" is doing, maybe walking out to another spot to tie off another rope to the antenna.
Close up of Tom "KB9UWR" working on the rope and insulator attachment to the antenna.
From left to right. Chad "KB9OGJ" and Tom "KB9UWR" having some fun while working on the task at hand of raising the antenna.
Chad "KB9OGJ" pulling some rope through the tree.
If you look real close you can see the 450 ohm ladder line that feeds the full wave loop antenna.
The wire of the antenna is almost invisible in the picture.
After a set up of the screened tent. Chad "KB9OGJ" begins to set up the radio station for field day operations. Trevor is scoping out the cooler and toolboxes.
Chad "KB9OGJ" putting the final touches on the field day station set up.
A look at Chad "KB9OGJ" checking on a QSO on the air before field day started.
Chad "KB9OGJ" closing in on the first contact for the initial station on the air test.
From left to right. Tom "KB9UWR" and Nick "KB9YUF" enjoying a good story together.
From left to right. Tom "KB9UWR" and Nick "KB9YUF" relaxing a bit after station set up.
From left to right. Jeff "KC9ANB, Tom "KB9UWR" and Nick "KB9YUF". It appears that Jeff and Tom are discussing the plans for the GOTA station set up. Nick is checking on operations inside the tent.
From left to right. Jeff "KC9ANB" and Tom "KB9UWR", I'd bet that's wire in Tom's hand and he's planning on another antenna going into the air.
Jimmie "N9VXQ" finally showed up for field day, after all the work is done.
A close up of the field day mascot, Trevor. A great big THANK YOU goes out to Wilson "N9YI" who wasn't in any of the pictures because he was behind the camera the entire time.
Chad "KB9OGJ" at the radio late night Saturday. He's still working stations and checking for DUPS on the log.
